Networking MummiesWith my work with Networking Mummies Dorset we have started to run monthly workshops our first was on Monday the 26th April and was headed up by Antonia Chitty.

Here's a fab blog about it from my partner in crime Laura Morris (www.rentabuggy.co.uk).

It was Monday 26th April and the first of our Inspiring Workshops. Kicking off our first one was the amazing Antonia Chitty of ACPR and Family Friendly Working.

We had 20 Networking Mummies involved in the workshop and it was great to finally meet some faces who we had been speaking to for ages!

Antonia kicked off the workshop with questions on 'how to promote your business'. She talked about how to plan your promotion using:

  • Aims
  • Objectives
  • USP
  • Promotion Planning

She put the group into pairs and gave them a few minutes to talk to each other about their business and to try and sell why that person should buy from you. Antonia followed on from this with a talk on distincting your USP and using a 'Strapline' as a snappy phrase for your business. She also talked further about 'elevator' pitches and how to put into practise on selling your business to someone new.

Antonia then talked about using 'Objectives for promotion' and breakdown your plans. Another idea was to do a table on how you planned to promote your business each week, allowing time to focus on other sides of your business. Why Plan? To save time, money and effort.

She also talked about the elements of promotion planning and making sure you know who your target audience is. Do you know what your customer earns? Importantly, what magazines and other media publications they read?

Antonia closed the first half of the session by talking about Social Media, this included Blogging, TwitterFacebook and various other avenues. She went into more detail regarding SEO's and keywords and tags.

At 12.45pm we had a break to enjoy the yummy sandwiches, tortilla chips and fruit along with a drink and a chance to network with others. Andrea Pittam of Andrea Pittam Photography was there to take some pictures too!

After lunch, we resumed the last hours session by all sitting in a circle. Antonia talked more about what she does, her background and why she does it. Attendees were welcomed to ask any questions at any time.

It was a great workshop, and I know we all walked away from it feeling inspired and motivated! Thankyou again to Antonia for lending us her time!

I have recently been chatting to lovely Louise AKA BabySigning Mummy who recently joined the Networking Mummies (Hampshire) clan and the wonderful world of Twitter.  After some chat sbout baby signing Louise asked me to write a blurb for her site about my experiences so here it is .....

When Charlie Moo was 6 months old we started to attend the local Sing BabyMooand Sign group.  Now I did really enjoy it, but at first nothing happened so it wasn’t a magical experience where after the first day my son could suddenly communicate without the need to cry!! If only and it was quite pricey and I wasn’t really sure what we were achieving.  But I preserved and I’m so glad I did! I taught Daddy Moo the few signs I knew he would find useful, milk, please, and the sentence ‘Where are Daddy’s KEYS’ and gradually Moo joined in too.  Although he had an annoying habit of signing ‘where’ then grunting as if we magically knew what he was looking for!

Not long after the birth of my daughter, I took Charlie who was then 16 months old to a Bouncy Castle event at the local leisure centre. Megan was at home with Daddy and it was a perfect bonding opportunity with Moo. We were bouncing away having a great time when Moo noticed a pile of soft play bits and tunnels he pointed over and said something I didn’t quite understand.  So I asked him to repeat, and still I didn’t understand.  So my gorgeous little man pointed first to the tunnels and signed ‘please’ then to the generator and signed ‘loud’ !

Together the two of us taught Baby Megan signs she would need and she too became a baby signing moo! Even though Charlie is now 3 years old he still, on occasions, will drop signs into conversations. We were at my mums recently and mum hadn’t quite heard what he had said, so he signed it to her! Bless him.  I found and am still finding it is a great tool in easing the frustration which can occur when children are trying to communicate verbally with you and you haven’t a clue what they are saying! At least if they are able to sign to you as well you can avoid any unpleasantries and correct there speech!
