So a few days into the summer holiday - I was applying suncream to Charlie Moo in preparation for a long day out when I noticed something black on his side. I touched it with my finger and instantly felt myself start to gag!! It was wiggling about!! Moo had a tick .... argh!
Firstly I called Nanny C who has a dog and 2 cats she's used to this type of thing!! Who told me to smother said creature in butter or sudocream so it was unable to breathe and it should then just fall off. Well I wasn't completely convinced so I did 2 more things - 1. I called the Dr. 2. I posted on Facebook!!
Moo finally saw a Dr 3 hours after discovering the tick .. which seemed unphased after being covered in sudocream!! I was slightly stressed by now! As a) it's gross and b) Facebook comments had told me that trying to suffocate the tick may have caused it to puke in Moo's bloodstream!! The Dr attempted to removed it but during removal it was 'popped' and ice spray was added to stop the tick from moving. Finally it was removed and moo was prescribed strong anti-biotics (precaution against Lymes Disease) to be taken 10mls x3 a day for 5 bottles! We are nearly at the end of bottle 5 and on Day 16 since removal!
If your child gets a tick there is so much information online that contradicts itself - ie. NHS site says to remove tick from child whereas I was told not to do this as you may leave part of the tick behind. My best advice would be to either call your Dr or take your child up to A&E. In this hot weather and if you are like us out in the forest all the time - ticks are really common so be aware.
