Olive loves turtles/tortoises. She is actually bordering on an obsession. Not only to we have books, cuddly toys, bath toys and the constant need to go see turtles/tortoises but she's desperate for a pet one! Which has been further fuelled by Auntie F's little friend Tallulah!
We decided to have a crafternoon session but one that everyone could enjoy. A few weeks previous during one of her many I'd like a tortoise sessions I had googled and found an easy pattern for making a felt tortoise/turtle on Ebabee Likes I printed off the pattern and really just let them get on with it – supervised of course!
They all selected their own felt and pinned the pattern on once they had cut them out. I used every ounce of self control not to get involved! The odd shapes and missing limbs are what makes them so magical!
The pattern is simple – 2 turtle shapes and a shell. Stitch the shell shape onto one of the turtles sew both together and stuff. We used the felt scraps to stuff them. We also added buttons for eyes. Considering the children did it all themselves I think they are fab!
I was a bit worried about the needles but we had no incidents. The children really enjoyed being creative and feeling grown up. I really enjoyed it too and yes made the red and yellow turtle!
