MOKURU | The latest craze from Japan

Posted on

It's literally only weeks since fidget spinners and Lego cards were the buzz words that uttered would bring even a fully grown adult to sob uncontrollably. There is nothing fiercer than the wrath of a small child who doesn't have card number 29! Fast forward to July and it's all about the MOKURU. This small handheld wooden toy was originally designed to test your balance and focus, the simple design can be seen testing the dexterity of fast fingered flippers everywhere from playground, to office desks, to beer gardens and dinning tables.

Carefully crafted out of beech wood in an eye catching colour combinations players can flip tip and spin one MOKURU or if you're a pro 5! I'm struggling with just one as it is! Packaged as a “desk toy” aiding in stress alleviation, the tactile shape certainly makes you want to pick it up and literally roll in on the table. (my flipping skills are incredibly lacking!)

MOKURU fidget rollers are under 10cm long and weigh around 1oz making them perfectly formed to fit in your pocket. Which is where our Inazuma MOKURU (yellow) has spent the majority of it's life in Charlie's pocket as he positions himself as the coolest kid in Year 5 (like back in September when everyone was playing with Rubik cubes and Charlie rocked up with a V-Cube).mokuru roller

Designer Masakazu Node has worked hard to ‘create the perfect size, shape and materials’ for MOKURU. Already huge in Japan and set to take over the world with distributed in the UK and Ireland exclusively by Peterkin. When I was a child and lived in Japan it was all Hello Kitty and Pokemon how the world has changed in *cough* just a few short years.mokuru

MOKURU claims to help focus and concentration, imagination and alleviate stress, through testing dexterity and honing in on your skills.  There's plenty of videos with tips and tricks on the website.

I have 3 children and a tiny car! Anything that the children can play that avoids them having to touch and annoying each other is a winner with me! Priced at £9.99 available from both Smyths and Amazon I think these will be a big hit the summer.
