Now I am partial to the odd review or two but seriously when someone asks you to eat a delicious selection of yummy food .. it is SO hard to say no!!?!?
Hello Fresh
What they say :-
Every week we send you amazing recipes and all the ingredients. With Hello Fresh anyone can cook!
- Say goodbye to supermarkets
- Discover amazing food
- Enjoy healthy fresh ingredients
What we thought :-
The box arrived beautifully packaged with
Woolcool ... which is awesome both in terms of the environment and keeping the produce cool. My only concern here was that I really didn't want to waste the wool but it's not something I would reuse or recycle, luckily I found someone to take it off my hands. If I was too use this as a regular service I would *
hope* that the courier would take any unwanted woolcool packs back to Hello Fresh. The handwritten note and bar of chocolate was a lovely touch too.
Day 1 - Ozone Prawns and Prosciutto Linguine ... yummy! No really this was delicious and something I would most definitely cook again. It was so easy and the instructions were clear and concise. M&M had a nibble (O is dairy free so she gave it a miss) and both gave the thumbs up!!
Day 2 - chicken, cous cous and critso .... I enjoyed eating this and would use plain cous cous and barely again as it was really tasty with the ingredients used and not something I would have thought to use 'naked', however I did find it all a bit flaffy!! Seemed to take forever to cook.
Day 3 - smoked mackerel salad ..... we hadn't read this card the day before and actually used all the green beans with the cous cous .. whoops! We eat a variation on the recipe a lot and M,M& O love fish so we decided to bulk it out to feed all 5 of us with fresh peas, lettuce and spring onions from our garden.
We eat generally as a family - the portion sizes sent were just for 2. So it was a bit odd cooking 2 meals. I felt that as a family of 5 this would be quite an expensive thing to do on a regular basis. Plus I like to be more organised produce wise. HOWEVER this is a lovely thing to do as a treat/special meal. I did however learn new things about certain foods and cooking I also tried new things too ... so I definitely enjoyed the experience but think the concept is possiby more geared towards single professionals or couples.
Also from a nick picky marketing point of view all the recipe cards suggest you like Hello Fresh on
Facebook .. yet the interaction is pretty non existence. Would be nice to see them replying to comments, queries and thanking those that uploaded images of their meals.
The Verdict: 7/10
The produce sent was top quality and beautifully packaged. The recipe cards easy to read and follow. The meals themself were delicious. But for me more a treat than a weekly shop.
